My first newsletter of 2021..

2021

Hello and thank you for opening my first newsletter of 2021.
I am grateful to have had a large amount of new local people join my mailing list recently, so welcome to you all.
Also over the last week my Facebook page past 1000 likes!
It made me scroll back and see how much my photos have changed within three and a half years, so I thought I'd make a comparison image.

The first photo I uploaded to social media in June 2017, versus the most recent photo. Coincidently both of Roe Deer!

New year, new camera

For my 30th birthday this week, my parents very generously bought me a new camera!
I have now replaced my Nikon D3300, with a Nikon D7500.
The Roe Deer photos you will see on this email were taken on my new camera, (apart from the terrible one at the top.)
It was an overcast day when I went to Durrington Cemetery to test out my new kit. With my old camera I wouldn't have gone out with that much cloud, but the D7500 handles low light much better.
It means I can now pump the settings right up without losing image quality. This is ideal for wildlife photography, as the best action and best light tends to happen around sunrise and sunset.
The image above was taken on ISO 2500, and the one below ISO 3200, which would have been unusable on my last camera.

Moving very slowly I managed to get really close to these beautiful animals.

As amazing as my new camera is so far, I'm certainly not trying to warn you off a Nikon D3300, in fact I'd recommend it for anyone getting started with nature photography.
I used it for 3.5 years, and it is capable of taking excellent photos. Every photo on my social media pages, up until this week, were taken with a D3300.
I would suggest starting with one of those and getting used to the settings, whilst learning all the basics of photography.
I think I bought mine new originally for around £260, slowly upgrading lenses that were more suited for wildlife.
Feel free to message me if you have any more questions on the subject, I don't want to bore everyone to death here.

If you are looking for ideas for a walk during lockdown, why not try Durrington cemetery and see if you can spot these Deer for yourselves?
It's a lovely stroll, which will surprise you how peaceful it can be next to such busy roads.
I will definitely be going back in the spring to try and photograph some baby Deer!

My last photos with the Nikon D3300

Below I'm going show you some of the last photos I took within the last month with the D3300, as future newsletters will contain photos from my newer camera.
Since moving to Arundel, I have taken advantage of the amazing surrounding areas, as you will see below.
West Sussex is such a lovely part of the world, with sprawling countryside, enticing areas of woodland, and a large variety of wildlife.

A female Kestrel soaking up some sun, Burpham.

A bit further a field. A Male Kingfisher at Brooklands.

Two male Pheasants fighting, Slindon.

A back-lit Robin, Angmering Park Estate.

I will probably send another newsletter sooner rather than later, because I know I'll be out with my new camera lots in the coming weeks. I already have more photos I want to show you!
Thanks for reading, I hope the technical parts weren't to tedious.
Fingers crossed 2021 turns out to be a better year for everybody, surely it can't be much worse.
Thank you all for your continued support, it's much appreciated.
Any feedback or questions, just reply to this email, and I will get back to you.

Please check out the links below to my social media pages, and website.

If you have enjoyed reading this, please do forward the email to anyone you think who might enjoy it, and I will leave the mailing list sign up link below for them.

Thanks, Ricky, R A Chalmers Photography.
